31 Days of Music - Blues Traveler - Four #tinychallenges
I don’t remember where I was when I first heard Blues Traveler, but I do remember where I was when I first saw the album on sale. It was the tiny, awful Wal-mart in my small college town. Man, what a hole in the ground that place was. It made other Wal-marts look bad. But that album, sitting on that rack, has for some reason stuck itself into my brain and will not leave.
This album is great. The band is great. But they don’t seem to be consistently great. I love them, so much so that one of the few concerts I’ve been to in my adult life was seeing them in a small, 500 seat venue. They played an amazing show and it was awesome to see Popper step off stage to light up a smoke, something that was illegal in our city, just as if to say, “What are you going to do, arrest me? I’m in the band!”
They haven’t had a big hit in well over a decade and they have had some significant tragedy befall the group, but they keep on going and keep on making music. Who cares about having a radio hit when you’re doing what you love? Their fans (me included) love them and their music, so what else is there really to say? The hook most definitely brings me back!
