Some random junk...
Sometimes in life, no matter what’s happening, no matter how great or bad life may be, I just can’t find a reason to blog. October saw a whopping six entries here, but last month saw just one and I’ve been fighting the lack of desire for a few days now to put down a first, and possibly only, December issue.
Last month I had an excuse, that being NaNo. National Novel Writing Month, to be precise. I won the month, reaching the 50,000 word goal, but came nowhere near finishing my novel. I felt that my writing this year was not nearly as good as it was last year, but practice is always a good thing. I nearly did not make it, given work early in the month and spending the week of Thanksgiving in California.
But I did finish, and I can only owe that to the fact that on the last day of the month, I was laid off from my job. Thankfully I knew this could happen, so I had been saving up cash just in case it did happen, and low and behold, it did happen. They did give me 4 weeks of severance pay, so that will help tide me over until I find another job. Yes, the timing, the last day of the month and no insurance beyond the day I was let go, was miserable. Add to that the fact that I had to pay to return my laptop and Christmas time being right around the corner, its not been a great time.
I can’t exactly complain though, given that I really only worked 4 weeks out of the last 6 months and got paid for that entire time. The down-time allowed me to build the nice deck that now adorns my house, along with the new landscaping in the front and rear yards.
The most annoying thing has to be the fact that I now have to look for a new job for the second time this year. Thankfully, several good friends I have made in the last few years are helping me to find a job at their consulting companies, so hopefully I will soon be employed once again.
So now, I am spending my time relaxing for the holidays. At least I don’t have to worry about traveling during this time of the year, so there is that little bit of good fortune!
